My introduction to NAMI Baltimore is one of the highlights of my life. I walked into a NAMI In Our Own Voice training and found myself in a room of about 15 people. As we went around the room telling our stories, I felt a connection with everyone there. We were all alike and for the first time ever I belonged. I had found a home.

I reached out to NAMI for support when my daughter displayed symptoms of Bipolar Disorder. I received encouragement in support groups and classes, which taught me what happened to me was more common than I realized. I learned coping skills and about all types of Mental Illnesses. I was provided a feeling of normality and acceptance.

Every time I facilitate a family support group, I come away moved by the lives of those in attendance and the challenges they face every day. They help me, and it fills my soul to know that I am helping them as well.
